"I love to create approaches to healing the mind, body and spirit by incorporating different modalities into the therapeutic counseling process. My goal is to help each individual heal and grow in order to live a better and more productive life."
I started my career in a Taunton State Hospital for the vulnerable population in Taunton, MA. This experience brought me face to face with what addiction, mental health, poverty and social structure can do to a person. This job provided me with the education to begin my journey to trying to understand substance abuse and mental health. It also introduced me to some of the most wonderful, creative and inspiring people. I was hooked. For the next several years I worked in many areas of social services all focusing around the needs of substance abusing clients and women who were affected by sexual assault and domestic violence. In 2001 I made the decision to return to school to complete a Master's Degree in Counseling from Cambridge College. Upon graduation in 2005 I began my career as a therapist specializing in women who have trauma issues and substance abuse. I have lead group practices to support people and Women with Dual Diagnosis Issues. I have worked as part of a private practice for over two years with several colleagues. I have also maintained a private practice for the last 4 years to treat people struggling with addiction issues and mental health. I look forward to continue to grow my practice and introducing new ideas for treatment protocol for women issues, children affected by addiction, family work around opioid dependence.
I also work with children from age 3 to 18 and we do behavioral plans, play therapy and help parents in helping regulate emotions and learn new coping skills that they are better able to adjust to their environment and respond in a healthy way. I also do family therapy and martial issues with helping families work through changes of stages and developing coping strategies to help with daily functioning.
I am a Integrative Psychotherapist, which means I utilize a variety of orientations and therapies, according to the client's individual needs. I work with clients from a holistic approach, cognitive behavioral, strength-based, positive and affirming perspective. I often refer to a motivational interview style, narrative therapy approach, brief solution focused techniques in my group settings. In the beginning of treatment with high risk individuals we focus on relapse prevention to construct a solid foundation for further complex treatment. In addition, I work collaboratively with numerous medication prescribers in the community to provide for a comprehensive treatment plan. In addition to my substance abuse work, I work with a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, other mental health disorders, unresolved emotional issues, self esteem/self-empowerment, grief and loss, relationship/family concerns, and trauma.
